FORMULA

Suzuki went to the blackboard, and drew an ellipse. He drew two parallel horizontal lines through the middle. He said the upper part
of the shape was the world of relativity; the lower part was that of the Absolute, which Eckhart called the Earth. The two parallels represented the ego or the intellect (with the lowercase i). The drawing as a whole showed the structure of the Intellect. Then Suzuki told about the intellect’s capacity of dissociating itself from its own experiences whether they came from the world of relativity through the senses or from the Absolute through dreaming. It is even capable of isolating itself from its likes and dislikes, taste and memory,
and flowing together with the Intellect (with the capital I).
